Diesel Mechanic Supervisor Job Description (Fleet Maintenance | Workshop Management | European Trucks)

We are looking for an experienced Diesel Mechanic Supervisor to oversee fleet maintenance operations, manage workshop activities, and lead a team of technicians. This role is ideal for a qualified diesel mechanic with strong leadership skills and experience working on European commercial vehicles and trailing equipment.


Diesel Mechanic Supervisor Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and manage daily workshop operations and fleet maintenance activities
  • Lead, motivate, and manage a team of diesel mechanics and contractors
  • Allocate and monitor work assigned to mechanical contractors and technicians
  • Provide on-road support for vehicle breakdowns and emergency repairs
  • Analyze driver reports and diagnose mechanical issues
  • Plan and coordinate scheduled maintenance in line with manufacturer specifications
  • Manage unscheduled repairs, breakdowns, and fault diagnostics
  • Ensure efficient execution of fleet service and maintenance programmes
  • Maintain workshop administration, stock control, and facility management
  • Monitor and manage fuel usage and levels
  • Troubleshoot and provide solutions to complex mechanical failures
  • Handle workshop-related queries and ensure high service standards
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, conduct safety meetings, and investigate incidents
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and reporting
  • Perform ad-hoc duties as required by management

Diesel Mechanic Supervisor Minimum Requirements

  • Matric (Grade 12)
  • Qualified Diesel Mechanic certification (essential)
  • Minimum 5 years post-qualification experience as a Diesel Mechanic
  • Previous supervisory or workshop management experience (advantageous)
  • Experience working with European trucks (MAN, Mercedes-Benz)
  • Experience with trailing equipment (BPW axles, Jost components, Thermo King refrigeration units, tail lifts)
  • Computer literacy (MS Teams and general systems)
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, shifts, weekends, and public holidays
